Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aqzvlevgdsE

Description: Free map showing you the best kayaking trip you will find in Norway. You kayak in both the Aurlandsfjord and NÆRØYFJORD. Bring your own kayaks or rent from Nordic Venture and easily Kayak from Gudvangen to Flåm following this route. Check the map for more details on each camping site.

At the location:: Canoe / Kayak Route

Highlights:: - Park for free - Camp for free - Go on the same tour as the guides will take you - Bring your own kayak or rent one - Some unique cafes on the route

Itinerary:: If you start from Gudvangen: Day 1: Kayak to Styvi Campite. It is an easy first day paddle. Keep in mind if you want to enjoy the beautiful scenery start early, and plan for a relaxed 3-5 hour day paddling. Day 2: Stay at Styvi Campite. Hike the old postal road and chill for a day, take in the scenery. Day 3: Kayak to Stokko Camping Site. Day 4: Walk or Kayak to Undredal for breakfast / cafe. Or get up early and kayak to the other side of the Fjord and check out the goat farm called "Skjerdal" and get some over pancakes. If it is a clear day this is an amazing spot many of the tour guides bring people. The lady who runs the farm is great. Kayak back to Stokko Camping Site. Day 5: Long day to Flåm....or just head back the other way for another trip. This is the same route & campsite most of the tour guides will take you on. There are plenty of hiking & trails along the way if you want to do those as well. Of course this route can be done in 1 day, 2 days, 3 days, etc... depending on your kayaking skills and what you are in the mood for. If you start from Flåm: Your first camp site is a long way away. It is (1) Stokko. If you are a decent kayaker you will be fine, but it will take a full day to get there. Then you go (2) Styvi. There is no place to camp at Gudvangen Beach.

Where to rent kayaks?: There are two companies. One of each side. (1) Nordic adventures is on Gudvangen beach. And Njord Kayak Centre is in Fläm beach. These are the only two. You can buy guided tours by them, or just rent a single or double kayak from them and follow this route. You literally camp in the same areas.

Other information:: About the NÆRØYFJORD: This fjord is part of the UNESCO’s World Heritage. It is by far the coolest fjord to kayak on. Very step mountains, very calm water (usually) and very deep. If you have to choose 1 side kayak up and down this one, the way back is just as beautiful and feels like another trip. The guided tours will tell you not to kayak too close to areas that have large step cliffs. Rocks can fall, take the advice. About the Aurlandsfjord: A much wider Fjord. on the east you have the city of Aurlandvagen to visit. They do have some cafes. The west side has step cliffs with waterfalls. Keep in mind when you cross from one Fjord to the other, the waves will be larger, and it will be more windy. Depending on your budget & how long you are staying, other additions to this trip could be instead of heading to Flåm, rent a cabin near Aurlandsvagen or pick up an ABNB and continue exploring the kayak. Once awesome (but expensive place that has to be rented for 1 week) is "Aurland Fjordhytter." But it is right on the water, and is perfect for kayakers.

How to get here?: If you are not by car remember you can reach Flåm be train! For example you can take a train from Stockholm to Oslo to Flåm. Of course there are also ferrys that come into both Gudvangen and Flåm depending on where you are coming from. Another cool idea is take a train from Stockholm or Oslo to Haugastøl (which is right before Flåm on the top of the mountain). Rent bikes from www.rallarvegen.com and bike down to Flåm...the bike trip is just as much out of this world and unique as this kayak route. (see other post on that trip)
